This unit discussed the receptive skills, reading and listening, of students. It describes the reason one would be reading or listening, either for purpose, entertainment, or both. It is important to know that people will interpret things based on their pre-existing knowledge. The unit provided different ways a teacher could reduce problems with listening and reading. The teacher should pre-teach vocabulary prior to the activity, be mindful of the materials presented to the students, and maintain the interest of all the students over a period of time. I learned all of those things are very important to be an effective teacher.
