The discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of rigidly following a course book was insightful and extremely helpful. It resonated with me in as much as I use one particular set of course books which I find difficult and, often, boring. As do the students. It does not have, I believe, a balance of skills. Listening and speaking activities at times appear secondary to the course and I often find myself seeking alternatives from the realms of authentic and created materials to correct this imbalance. Yet again the ESA Lesson Plan example was very helpful in assisting with the integration of this information into a tangible whole.
