A teacher must inspire confidence, organize and manage the class in a friendly manner, and maintain discipline. A teacher needs control of the class without being dominating. The teacher's eye contact, gestures, and voice control all help establish rapport and maintain discipline. Varied activities in group work, pair work, and individual work should be included. There should always be a balance between teacher talking time and student talking time. A teacher should not shout or lose his temper; he should always be well-prepared, even tempered, and respectful of the students. A teacher should be encouraging, happy to be teaching, and smiling!
