Lesson planning is a pretty good idea if it is done with some degree of flexibility. As for new or inexperienced teacher, it is essential to plan for lessons to be more prepared when/if unexpected language problems arise during lessons which might lead to lack of direction.

1) Writing down what you expect the students to achieve by end of the lesson
2) It helps you to keep on target when time is of essence and it gives you something to refer to during the lesson
