In the international school where I work, I never had the same students from the beginning of school year till the end. I continually have new students who need English support and previous students who leave the class to go back to their homeroom teacher. So the new group and existing group categories are familiar to me.
I agree that warming up students before starting class to get students ready for lesson is helpful, and I often face different levels of students in my class. I like the strategy of allowing stronger students to assist weaker students and I use it often in my ESL class. I never had a large class but I learned how to deal with large class problems and techniques to solve the problems in this Unit.
