I have found this past tense unit much easier and faster to learn than the other previous grammar units because, as highlighted at the beginning of this unit, the past tense is constructed and functions in a similar way to the present tense - with the main difference being that it deals with the past. Like the present, the past tense takes four different forms: the past simple, the past continuous, the past perfect and the past perfect continuous. A number of common verbs have an irregular past simple form, which the teacher should ensure that their students are aware of and are attempting to learn themselves, given that a) they are important verbs for day-to-day use and b) there is no easy rule to remember them by.
