In the first lesson, the teacher gives out instructions all the time without illustrations, explanations and not engaging the students at all. He was aloof, cold, impatient and not smiling. He expects the students to understand him when he dishes out modal auxillary verb without explaining or checking if the students understood.
In the second lesson, he is a lot friendlier, engaging by getting to know their names and calling their names randomly. He allows other students to \"correct\" the wrong answers provided by their classmates. He uses lots of gestures and mimes which helps the students understand better.
In summary, a teacher with positive and engaging attitude results in students responding in a high level of participation.
