Regularly evaluation and testing helps the teacher to know what the students know, if they are retaining the language points they have learned, and whether they have attained the required standard for their language level. The results can also assist the teacher to prepare materials and activities to address any language problems that are evident. Though some teachers believe that formal testing often reflects memory and not actual knowledge of the language, it is none-the-less a reality that they have to contend with in many schools.
