Unit 14 gave a look at coursebooks and materials. It went into detail about the two forms of materials. Firstly, authentic materials which is anything a native English speaker would hear or read. The are not specifically designed for ESL students. The are however real and therefore more interesting to students. Created materials on the other hand, are designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials. These include crosswords, flashcards and role-play cads to name a few. Coursebooks have several components: the student's book, workbook, cassettes, the teacher's book, and sometimes videos. There are some advantages and disadvantages to consider when choosing to use coursebooks, as well as things to note when choosing a specific coursebook.
