The Teaching Receptive Skills Unit focuses on two skills: receptive and productive. Receptive skills include reading and listening whilst productive skills include speaking and writing. The information provided gives answers to questions such as: \"why do we speak to each other?\" For a purpose (a need) of for entertainment (a desire). Accuracy and fluency, which are both equally important) were discussed. Accuracy refers to the correct use of grammar and vocabulary, and fluency refers to the ability to speak without stopping to think. Two lessons are developed to show both receptive and productive skills; a straight arrow ESA lesson and a patchwork ESA lesson respectively. Finally, the use of games to reinforce a teaching point and to create an element of fun are described.
