The following unit provides resources on some of the external examinations and assessment tests available for English language learners and their unique situations. For example, the TOEIC test is the most common one that I've come across as a test designed for international business. Meanwhile, the ESOL Skills for Life Certificate helps immigrants living in Britain achieve English as their second language for everyday skills. Taking a variety of tests, particularly diagnostic and practice tests, should prepare students for external testing which may be intimidating or overwhelming for students to take if they are under-prepared. I also think that teachers underestimate the value of evaluation by students. Taking a small questionnaire can help teachers improve their coursework and tailor the material to their students' needs and expectations.
