Unit Seventeen describes the various teaching tools/materials that you would find in a typical ESL classroom. The unit describes the functions of each tool and how to use them in a lesson plan. In this unit I learned what CALL stands for (Computer Aided Language Learning), as well as the many resources available for ESL teachers. I am very grateful for the resources given in this unit as they give an ESL teacher many good teaching ideas and materials to use in classroom.This chapter helped me realize what things would help build receptive skills of students like using texts selected for the students english learning level, pre-teaching difficult language before the students start reading and using texts that will actually motivate the students. I also learned that the four basic skills in any language are the receptive skills of listening and reading and the productive skills of speaking and writing. All of these are equally important.
