This unit had showed how relevant a course book can or cannot be in a learning environment.
Usually course books are made for native speakers so for ESL students this is a disadvantage, although it is up to the teacher to choose carefully what type of course book he/she will introduce to the students according to the group level. Therefor planning the lessons ahead and knowing the students English level is part of the key for a good selection of materials and course book.It is extremely daunting when I am asked to use a book in class. I always thought that I had to be strict to the lessons and materials when teaching the subjects. I am glad that in my future classes I can either add more materials to the lessons or switch the exact content with more interesting exercises. Finally, I did not know that authentic materials were more interesting to students. I usually thought that exercises like role-play created by the teacher were more fun.
