Though many teachers don't necessarily love the idea of testing with their students, it is especially important when teaching students English when they are speakers of foreign languages. The teacher needs to know where the current students' language level is and how to create lesson plans to elevate it. Progress testing throughout the course helps the teacher and the learners to see how far they've come and how far they still need to go. Seeing results helps to keep motivation high.Phonetics are a critical and seemingly advanced part of the language that we as English teachers need to be acutely aware of. We can know how the language is pronounced, but English isn't always as logical to a non-native speaker as it is to us. Especially with such complexities with words that don't follow the same rules such as 'Though' and 'Rough'. Being able to show how a word is pronounced is just as important as a student knowing its definition and use in grammatical structure.
