This unit introduces the students to the evolution and history of teaching methods. Likewise how each of the pros of previous methods are now incorporated into the ESA approach. However, it's important to understand each of the previous methods as individual theories in order to address the negative qualities. By understanding the negative qualities, we can save ourselves from making errors in the classroom and focusing on the positive attributes from each method.
The lesson goes on to expand upon the ESA method. Engage. Study. Activate. Each of the three components are broken down and the suggestions in the reading material are very helpful in facilitating a smooth progression of lesson content. The flexibility of the ESA method also allows for variety in the classroom in order to keep the students from getting the feeling of deja vu or boredom via predictability.
