This unit has made clear the importance of having a lesson plan. As an aid to planning out a lesson beforehand, a reference while conducting the lesson in class, and as a record of what was taught and when, the lesson plan is a vital part of maintaining organization. A solid plan will have enough structure to give the lesson form, but will not be so rigid as to disallow flexibility when teaching. A good plan will also allow an instructor to plan out what materials will be needed and if they have these ready before the lesson begins. Since timing is a concern, one would also want to anticipate possible issues and have solutions ready in the event that such problems arise. Finally, a lesson plan can always be evaluated afterward in order to gauge whether the teacher and learner objectives were accomplished and what might be changed for next time so that the lesson will be more effective.
