Being a native English speaker and going through the various units in the TEFL course, I have come across again and again bits of speech that I implicitly know how to use without even knowing the term for it. In this unit, this applies to phrasal verbs. They are just things that native English speakers know how to use and incorporate into their every day speech. The only time you notice them at all is if someone says them incorrectly and you sit there and try to think why it sounds so wrong. So it is certainly interesting to be confronted with it directly and forced to pick apart the various ways of using them. As an aside, the passive voice section brings me back to high school. I had a teacher that was so against us using passive voice in our essays and research papers, that he would only allow us to use 'is' a maximum of three times in a five page paper. Until that, I didn't even realize that I was often utilizing a passive voice. I still think about that while I write papers now.
