This unit was about a variety of subjects; modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice.
First, this unit taught about modals. There are many modals and they add meaning to the main verb. They are often used to express different degrees of formality and certainty. Next, the unit taught the difference between active and passive voice and how to form the passive. The passive shifts the sentence so that the object of a very becomes the subject.
Next, the unit covered relative clauses. There are three different types of clauses; independent, dependent, and relative. Relative clauses are further broken down into defining and non-defining clauses. Lastly, the unit covered phrasal verbs. These are verbs with additional particles that work as a single item.
I found the sections on the passive voice and phrasal verbs to be especially helpful. In my position as an assistant teacher these are two of the things that some of my students struggle with the most because they are very different from their native language.
