I learn what is past tense and how to use the preterite, present perfect and past perfect- simple and progressive or continuous forms. Also what are irregular and regular verbs and how to teach them to the students.
The simple past tense, sometimes called the preterite, is used to talk about a completed action in a time before now.
The past continuous tense is most often used for actions happening at some time in the past. If we want to talk about an action that was happening over a period of time in the past, we use the past continuous tense.
The past perfect refers to a time earlier than before now. It is used to make it clear that one event happened before another in the past. It does not matter which event is mentioned first - the tense makes it clear which one happened first.
The Past Perfect Continuous is used to talk about actions or situations that were in progress before some other actions or situations. There are also other uses: Duration of a past action up to a certain point in the past.
Showing cause of an action or situation.
Third conditional sentences.
Reported speech.
