Unit 16 covered conditional & reported speech. Conditionals are sentences containing 'if' which refer to past, present and future possibilities. The five main conditionals are zero conditional, first conditional, second conditional, third conditional, and mixed conditional. Teaching ideas were provided to aid with conditional learning (i.e. using split sentences, performing chain conditionals were students can continue a conditional sentence, provide moral dilemmas for discussion, etc).Unit 18 Modals, Phrasal Verbs and Passive Voice. Modal auxiliary verbs are used to give meaning to verbs. They include such words as could, would, might, can, should, have, must, got to etc. Some forms have meanings relating to giving varying degrees of permission or obligation and others infer varying degrees of politeness or formality. The last part of the unit deals with the passive voice as opposed to the active voice which is used to shift the focus onto the object in the sentence.
