This unit is about conditionals and reported speech. Conditionals are sentences containing if or when which refer to past, present and future possibilities. The five types o conditionals are zero conditional (If/when + present tense, present tense), first conditional (If + present tense, will), second conditional (If + past simple, would + verb), third conditional (If + past perfect, would + have + past participle) and mixed conditional (If + past perfect, would + verb). the teaching ideas for teaching conditionals can be teaching split sentences, completing the half completed conditional sentences, making chain conditional sentences, role play, etc. If a person says something to another person, that is direct speech. If a person reports to a third person what the first person said, that is a reported speech. In the reported speech Past simple changes to past perfect, present continuous to past continuous, present perfect to past perfect, etc. The teaching ideas for reporting speech can be intermediaries (in group of three students), making list of direct and reporting verbs and media interviews.
