Unit 18 covered modals, phrasal verbs and passive voice. Modals are used before other verbs and add meaning to the main verb. Some of the different ideas expressed by modals are obligation, possibility, permission, ability, and advice.
When using passive voice, the object of the active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. Using the passive voice will change the focus of the sentence from the subject to the object. Only transitive verbs, which are followed by an object, can be used in the passive voice.
An important lesson I learned is that the active and passive voice tenses will remain the same; however, the passive voice tense will be indicated by the auxiliary verb 'be' and the active voice tense will be indicated by the main verb. Also, my memory was refreshed concerning the relative clause and how it will be set off by comas if it is not essential to the meaning of the sentence.
Phrasal verb are multi-word verbs. These verbs can be classified as intransitive, transitive separable or transitive inseparable depending on if they can have, or their relation to the object of the sentence.
