Unit 5: Managing Classes
i have learned that classroom management is the skill of organising and managing the class, havoing a friendly, relaxed manner and maintaining discipline.
i have learned also the the importance & proper use of Eye contact, gesture and the voice. and also the used of student's name. in this unit, i have learned the importance of grouping students and how you can group them. Either by Whole-class grouping, student working on their own, pairwork, or groupwork. And in this unit, we also tackled the classroom arrangement and the different styles of arrangement (orderly rows, circles & horseshoes, separate tables, teacher's position).
aside from the things i mentioned above, i have also learned about:
1. writing on the board
2. giving individual attention,
3. teacher talking time and student talking time (advantages and disadvantages).
4. giving instructions: using simple language, being consistent, using visual clues, checking the instructions.
5. establishing rapport
6. maintaining discipline.
Reasons for problem behaviour:
family problems
low self esteem
peer pressure
lack of respect to the teacher
class size
Preventing problem behaviour and responding to problem behaviour.
