Class management is the skill of organising the class, what happens within it and its students. Teachers don?t only have teaching techniques at their disposal. There are other tools including the teacher?s physical presence, student grouping and classroom arrangement that help.
A teacher also needs to be aware of the behavioural dynamics which take place in the classroom. I believe establishing good rapport with the students is crucial as is promoting rapport between students themselves. These dynamics are prerequisites for a more productive lesson There are practical ways to help achieve this objective. Everything should be thought out to promote bonding and create as many opportunities for student talk time as possible.
There are things teachers should always do like being respectful, expect respect, be positive and calm and there are other things that are tightly correlated to the class including and not exclusively the seating arrangement, grouping the students and the activities chosen.
I think knowing how to respond to behavioural problems has to be clear to teachers in order for them to stay calm and observing the students and the dynamics that take place in the class are key to prevent them.
