This unit discusses the methods involved in teaching students the two productive methods of English; speaking and writing. It starts out by explaining the basic reasons for the necessity of using this aspect of language, which highlights the importance of making sure that the class is built on topics and activities that encourage the students to be interested in wanting to communicate to each other. They offer quite a lot of different options from knowing what topics are interesting to your students, to quite a few games that stimulate competition and cooperation in a fun atmosphere. It also discusses the difference between needing to focus on accuracy during the more controlled study phase to focus on the proper usage, placement, and punctuation of the new language they've learned to a more guided activity that increases the students input, to a much more fluency based creative activation stage where the students are really able to practice using the language in a more natural way. I think, overall, I learned a lot from understanding the transition and the tools needed to make a smooth transition from the control needed to convey the lesson, to helping the students produce work of their own so that they have a more immersive and effective learning experience.
