In unit 13 I learned about teaching special groups of learners: beginners, teaching individual students, teaching children, and teaching Business English (ESP, English for a Specific Purpose). I learned that the term \"beginner\" has a range of different meanings, including absolute beginner, false beginner, adult beginner, young beginner, and beginner without the Roman alphabet. There are certain special skills and some philosophy that is required when teacher employ methodology and techniques. One main important factor is not to engage in the student's mother or native language. As with each type of special group learners, there are certain methods to follow and a set of possible problems that may arise in the classroom. For example, it is highly recommended NOT to over-correct the beginner student because it will decrease their motivation and and increase their self-consciousness. It is better to focus more on parse and encouragement, create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, and be sensitive to the students. Homework is important when teaching the beginner because s/he needs the most practice. I also learned that there are a host of issues specific to the student population you are teaching, including teaching children and Business English to adults who work all day.
