Unit 7 explained about the basics on how to teach new language, particularly on vocabulary, grammar and functions. Teaching vocabulary is very important for students. Whether the students can understand the vocabulary will depend on factors such as similarity to the student's own language, similarity to English words that the student already know, spelling and pronunciation, and appropriacy. The teacher can use the ESA method in teaching vocabulary. Activities such as pictures, role play, crosswords are some of the things that the teacher can initiate to engage the students. Introducing grammatical structures are determined by the level of class and course syllabus. It is very important that the student knows what the language means, how it is used, what the grammatical form is and how it is written. Language functions include inviting, refusing, agreeing, disagreeing, suggesting. Language function lessons will need for activation of language. Role plays are very useful. I have learned that teaching a new language to students need four things: exposure to the language, understand the meaning, understand the construction, and to practice and produce it. The ESA methods need to be applied in teaching new language depending on which structure is most appropriate to the class and to the language that will be taught.
