This unit deals with three subjects in a same lesson, modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. Modals are: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, have to, have got to, need to, needn't and ought to. Modals can be used to express a number of diffent ideas, such as: obligation, possibility, permission, ability, and advice. This lesson teaches us that sentences in english
can be active or passive. Therefore all English learner must be trained to recognize the difference between \"active forms\" and \"passive forms\" to successlly speak English. In active sentences, the thing doing the action is the subject of the sentence and the thing receiving the action is the object. In passive sentences, the thing receiving the action is the subject of the sentence and the thing doing the action is optionally included near the end of the sentence. Unit eighteen introduces us to the concept of relative clauses with its three different categories: the independent clause, the dependent clause, and the relative clause. As far as phrasal verbs are concerned, we could learn that phrasal verbs consist of a verb plus one or two particles. a particle may be a proposition or an adverb, or an adverb plus a preposition. All reader of the eighteen unit book lesson can also learn that there are three basic types of phrasal verbs: transitive, transitive separable, transitive inseparable.
