In this unit we covered how to manage a classroom. This involved ideas surrounding rapport building, maintaining discipline and general movement of the teacher. As a teacher you must learn when to be firm but also to instil confidence into your students for a better atmosphere. As an introvert I am glad to know that good classroom management does not need an extroverted individual and your own style will come.
Eye contact, gesturing, body language and tone is important when working with students. To allow them to feel included and also to maintain the flow of the lesson. You can use the students name where applicable but not before a question as this can confuse the group.
Physical classroom management can involve moving the setting, some with chairs in rows, some in circles (or horseshoe) for example, depending upon the personalities of the students, the size and whether the teacher is suitably placed.
Furthermore when writing on a board it is important to maintain the engagement of the classroom, to look back when required to ensure the students are keeping up, you can use an overhead projector or pre-written work (covered up) if it is preferable.
It is important to remain calm when teaching, if any problems arise the best ways to deal with issues is without stress. Problem behaviour can be prevented if the teacher is professional, punctual and prepared for anything that may occur
