This unit was very helpful and informative. The chart for for modal verbs was very helpful and nice to have as a quick reference. This is when I think it is helpful to have a course book as your guide. All the ones I have worked with follow a grammar progress and build on top of each skill or guideline, therefore making it easier for the students to grasp the concept. I also appreciate when the school stays with the same curriculum throughout the levels as generally they continue to build on what the students already know. With that being said, I think I rely to heavily on course books to aid me in teaching these grammar rules. This would be worth my time to study in depth and feel fully confident in it. For example, modal verbs a not as difficult as they have more guidelines and rules that a student can follow or use to check their understanding. However the phrasal verbs are more complex, without as many guidelines. Even I get confused as to which type a particular sentence is. I appreciated the examples given in the text, however some of them seemed to be very similar and therefore confused me as to the correct guidelines for phrasal verbs. I had to stop read the text without the examples to understand more in depth.
I can see how to fully understand or master these grammar skills would take years of school. I also appreciated the activity ideas for assisting in comprehension of the modal verbs.
