Teach English in Settle - TESOL Courses
As we all know, there are four basic skills in any language, receptive skills and productive skills.all skills are equally important. I learned a lot of useful tips in this lesson about receptive skills.
Receptive skills are about reading and listening. Actually, for the beginners, listening is more difficult than reading. Because if they read an article, they can see words on paper and read it again and again to study with the context. But for listening, they cannot have longer time to deduct what they hear and if they don't understand at the moment they hear the word, it will disappear at once. That is why the beginners feel listening is more difficult.
For reading and listening, having pre-existing knowledge is pretty important for students. If they have pre- existing knowledge for the topic, they must be interested in it so that they can get involved in following activities. They can have their own opinions to share with other partners. If the topic is too special, like astronaut, which is related to professional subject. It will be too difficult to continue for beginners. So the selection of reading topic is essential.
However, if some topics are really interesting but difficult , teacher can pre-teach complex vocabulary or structures, they can teach most of parts but not all of them, because reading with some unknown words is unavoidable for language learning, and it's also an important skill to improve.
