Teach English in Stalham - TESOL Courses
The main thing that I have found of real benefit in this course has been around issues of grammar and teaching certain grammatical rules to students. Despite having no problems with grammar on a personal level, this is something that was never taught to me formally and just exists due to being a native speaker with a certain level of education.
Although I have been teaching for 18 months, very little of my job requires teaching students grammar and correcting grammatical errors has often just involved telling them what word or sentence structure is correct without always being able to provide a clear and full explanation as to why and as to how they can learn a rule that will stop them making similar mistakes in the future.
Having a clear forms for tenses and rules regarding the structure of sentences in terms of objects and subjects etc has already allowed me to bring clearer explanations into the classroom and provide students that I teach with notes and instructions that they can learn and apply to their english.
It has also been useful to work on creating lesson plans from nothing other than a basic instruction as my current school provides work books that constitute the vast majority of our lesson time. As such, I generally only have total autonomy over areas that would classify as activate stages
and working on planning and structuring lessons from nothing is something that I feel will be essential to me in the future once I move to a different job.
It is also helpful to have feedback on ideas that you propose or teaching methods that you endorse from the online tutor who has a greater experience in teaching. As it stands I get a little feedback in my current job, but not from someone who is a qualified teacher or has a lot more classroom experience than me. It is therefore clearly beneficial to have additional feedback on things that can work in the classroom and to get a clear idea of what I am doing very well and what areas need to be improved.
The use of grammar and explaining things like clauses is already something that I am putting into effect in the classroom and I have no doubt that thinking about teaching theory and understanding the idea behind the three stages of a lesson and the various structures that are used will be hugely useful in the future.
To have an understanding of the ideas behind teaching methods and structures means, that in any future job where providing materials and lesson plans is my sole responsibility, I will feel far more confident in giving students a strong and productive lesson.
