Unit 14 included information about books and materials in the ESL lessons. There are three types of materials: authentic(texts or audio not from ESL books e.g. magazines, menus etc), created (materials designed by the teacher to replaced/support course material), and course books.Course books are a difficult subject for ESL teachers because they can be uninteresting and predictable for students which can cause them too show a lack of interest. Although course books have their down side they do have advantages such as their balance of subjects, their ease and their graded syllabus. It is best to try to use a course book especially as a beginner teacher. Using them as a base for lessons is a great idea as teachers can adapt, expand and replace outdated and irrelevant activities for students.
