From this unit, I learned about the various examinations used to track progress during a language course. I also learned that each type of test is important, and distinct. For example, a diagnostic test, a placement test and a progress test each have their own purpose. A diagnostic test is given beforehand to assess knowledge base; a placement test is given to aid the teacher in putting the class into groups; a progress test lets the teacher know how students are doing throughout the course.This unit teaches how important testing and evaluating is in a teaching /learning environment. I have learnt that testing should be continuous in order to know how well students are progressing, what they have learned and what they still need to learn. I have also learned about the different international external bodies that administer different testing for specific purposes. I was quite unaware that so many people take these tests which are widely recognised for purpose of work and study.
