This unit covered evaluation and testing. It stated the different types of testing that we can do and why we do evaluations. It is important to give feedback to students, as they can also evaluate their own level. There are many ways in which one can test a student's language level. Tutorials, evaluation by the students themselves are some ways, and also testing. There are different types of tests that take place at different times during the course. Placement tests are usually used to identify a student's level, to place them in a correct class, Diagnostic test are used to check what the students know and don't know at a start of a course, this also helps a teacher to plan lesson better. Progress tests are used to check what language students have remembered and are done throughout the course, and practice tests are used to help students prepare for external exams. There are a number of different external exams that are recognized by different universities and institutions. I have learnt that there are a number of different tests that non-native speakers can take to reach a certain goal in speaking English. Some are for business reasons, and to pursue a certain career in English, while some are just to learn the language to live in an English speaking country. All these tests can be taken at different Universities and institutions, and are widely recognized.
