Classroom management is the skill of organizing and managing the class, having a friendly, relaxed manner and maintaining discipline.-In this unit we learn the importance of Eye contact, gestures and the voice of the teacher in the classroom. -Eye contact is very important in the classroom in order to establish good rapport with students, show confidence and maintain discipline. we also see examples of when the teacher needs to use eye contact and they are; ensure students involvement in the lesson, ensure student understanding of what is going on,indicate who is to speak, encourage contribution etc-Gesture is also very vital and can be used in the following ways; to convey meaning of language, add visual interest, increase passe of the lesson, reduce the need for verbal explanation.-The voice- if the teachers'voice is not clear, not in range, has no variety or projection then he/she will have difficulties in making instructions. however the voice should change in relation to the circumstances. In this unit we also see how we can use groups and the different Types of grouping that the teacher can use for effective learning.1) The whole-class grouping2)Students working on their own3)pair-work4)Group workn/b it is very vital to understand that the type of group you choose to administer will solely depend on the size of the class and the type of activity not forgetting that student talk time being the priority.I have also learned about classroom arrangement, this is the way you organize yourself and the position of the students. classroom arrangement is determined by the following; space available, type of chairs/tables, student age, nationality and student personality. The following are the types of classroom arrangements; Orderly rows, circles and horse shoes, separate tables, the teacher position. The unit also teaches about establishing rapport between teacher and student and also gives some practical ways that a teacher can use to establish the same and this include; being aware of students that go along well and those that don't,ensuring that students know each other, have an ice breaking activity at the beginning of the course, choosing materials that will prompt students talking to each other, use Plenty of pair and group-work,change pairs frequently etc.The last thing in this unit that is very important for the teacher to learn is how to main Discipline which will depend on factors like; Age of the students, reasons for learning, class size, if the students want to be there, respect between teacher and students and finally the core values of the school.we also see the reasons for problem behaviour, preventing problem behaviour and how as a teacher i should respond to the problem behaviour.
