This unit is about the teaching of pronunciation and phonology used in ESL teaching. The unit covers stress, rhythm, and intonation, and their effects on words, phrases, and sentences. In addition, the phonetic alphabet is introduced. Techniques for teaching the pronunciation of words are given. The unit also discusses the best time to teach pronunciation in the classroom. In my experience, the younger a student is, the more they'll learn and adopt english pronunciation. It's very difficult to reprogram the muscle memory of the mouth and change life long habits once a student gets older - but it's not impossible. Dedication and repetition are important, along with a good curriculum, teacher and practice group. This section focused exclusively on phonology. It was a lot of information on how to teach it as well as engage your students. This section was a tough read but it was very intense in its detail, which was a good thing due to the fact this Type of u it could very easily get overlooked.
