This unit did a thorough explanation of the many elements of teaching pronunciation and phonology. It first went over phonology, illustrating the patterns of stress and intonation. Intonation relates to the raise and fall of both volume and pitch and what they may indicate. It gave a few examples of how to teach this using nonsense words or clapping a rhythm so that it is simplified for the students. It went on to introduce the phonetic alphabet and how it can be used to clearly describe pronunciation, particularly for words the look similar when written out. The phonetic alphabet was paired with descriptions of both places and manners of articulation and how to model these for the class. It also gave some easy examples of activities to illustrate these methods to the class and how it can be adapted to various lesson plans - either in whole lessons, lesson slots, or just when they are required.
