There are two types of course material: authentic and created material. Authentic material are real, may be more interesting, and motivating. Created material are designed by the teacher and can be graded to the level of the students. The advantages of course books are that they provide the students a syllabus which has been tested Before, show the students progression and offer good ideas for teachers. The disadvantages of course books are that they do not always fit the needs of the student, make the teacher less creative, and may create boring/predictable lessons.
