This unit discussed the advantage and disadvantages of using authentic materials and course books. The benefits of authentic materials such as: newspaper stories, add and menus is that they are real and more interesting motivating students. However, it is difficult to assess how they develop language proficiency. Course materials are good as they are tried and tested methods of teaching english. However, they should not be relied upon to heavily for every lesson.
