Teaching pronunciation is difficult. When I taught ESL students in the past I mostly had the student watch my mouth - noting the placement of my tongue to teeth, air passing through my lips, and etc. I do feel that I made studying this unit more difficult than what I should have. I concentrated more on the terms and trying to learn them rather than the meaning. Once I simply stopped this I was able to grasp a better understanding of the content. This unit was difficult but very informative. I particularly enjoyed transcribing the paragraph using the Phonemic Alphabet. It was quite challenging but yet my brain was able to make out the sentence quickly. For non native speakers I think using the Phonemic Alphabet will be challenging.
