I have to give different types of tests to see where my students are currently at with the information provided. With teaching speech, that is sometimes difficult because some of the information is just basic vocabulary. With basic vocabulary comes the need to memorize the information and definitions so you can then apply it to real world examples. I use what we call here formative assessments like warm-up's, quizzes, and even games to see if they know the content or vocabulary words. Then we do have summative assessments to see as a whole over many chapters, how much have they learned and can apply. Some of the questions are linked and high thinking in the fact that you have to read the scenario, know the definition, and then be able to link the answer to the scenario based on the definition. If you don't know the word, you can't make the application or link.
