Unit 13 was a mouthful (literally and figuratively). It provided me with detailed information regarding pronunciation and phonology/phonetics. Phonology in this context refers to the whole sound system of the english language. I have learnt the definition of intonation, along with the different patterns of intonation and the usages. The techniques for teaching intonation will be of tremendous help in the future. One would think that stress and intonation is the same thing, but the two terms have major differences, stress emphasizes an individual word, as where intonation sets the tone for an entire sentence. After studying the contents, I now understand the rules regarding stress and also where and when to apply it and to which syllables. I have a better grasp of the phonemic alphabet and symbols, and the attached link is will be useful for future reference. Articulation was especially interesting for me. The speech organs, and the role they play in how we speak is absolutely amazing. No wonder language is defined as a science. Not only have I learned about the speech organs, but also the place of articulation and the manner of articulation. Overall, this unit gave me all the necessary "tools"" I need to incorporate pronunciation and phonology in my lessons. I no longer lack the theoretical knowledge on how to incorporate it
