There are three main methods of evaluating. 1. Tutorials, 2. Evaluation by the student, 3. Tests. Tests can be broken down further into; 3a. Placement tests to identify a student's level, 3b. Progress test, 3c. Diagnostic test, 3d. Practice test, 3e. General external examination, 3f. Cambridge assessment. I am likely to encounter/use 3a to 3d in my classes, my preference is to test by stealth (because I teach younger students) and make tests a game.
