Just like receptive skills, productive skills are a crucial part of becoming fluent in another language. Students must learn to engage with the language in order to learn how to speak or write, but unlike receptive skills, the teacher has a more important job in making students feel comfortable. A comfortable student will be less afraid to take risks with the language, and if the teacher can make class fun, it will help students enthusiastically tackle the language and WANT to share. Communication almost always has a purpose, so the teacher's job is to formulate class activities with that goal in mind.
