Authentic materials can boost students' confidence if they can understand it especially that being real makes it more interesting. And that they can be geared to the students particular interests. And it allows a window to the real world. But it may be difficult for the students as it may contain informal english. Created materials can be used to replace or supplement material from the book. But it may be boring boring because itÂ’s not real. And it may limit student's exposure everyday English. Using course books with a class is more like what students expect and itÂ’s less time-consuming for the teacher. And it's already tried and tested. It also entails progression. And it's useful for novice teachers and a thing to rely on by experienced ones. But students may not like the book. And some topics/lessons may not be suitable for the class.
