I personally found the information in this unit difficult to understand. This is not something that I have any experience with nor was I taught this in my time as student. The unit contained information about a new upcoming science of phonology and its importance in teaching correct pronounciation to students. The writer thinks it is important that students have some knowledge of this so that they know how sounds in english language are made, how native speakers speak placing stresses and intonations in different parts of the sentences and words to change meanings and carry emotions. He feels this is important so that those learning English can do the same. I agree. If one is to learn and speak a language they should learn all the things that will help them use it effectively - words without meaning or the wrong meaning would make communication ineffective.
