These skills and practices are important building blocks for language fluency. In writing skills, accuracy is more the focus of the exercise because the students have more time to plan and execute language concepts. It is also noteworthy that unclear and imprecise language may lead to confusion among the intended receiver as there is no opportunity to clarify after the fact. Speaking on the other hand is primarily concerned with fluency as the students will have to react in real time in order to be understood. Accuracy is somewhat less important in these exercises as the students can regroup and reformulate what they are intending to say to ensure understanding in the listener. Making mistakes in spoken language with new material is part of the learning process of language acquisition. Therefore, creating a more playful and forgiving environment for these activities encourages creative use of the language.
