This was probably the most difficult unit for me. I am able to understand the concepts of intonation and stress. I believe that students benefit from learning these two areas the most. The area that I had most difficulty with was the phonetic alphabet as well as manner of articulation. As a native English speaker, I never made an effort to learn the phonetic alphabet because it was more of a natural learning process. I can see how this would be useful in teaching students and am starting to pay more attention to the way in which I create different sounds.I am quite surprised to learn of the different ways in which a lesson in English can be broken down for better understanding on the student's part. The ESA method really excels in generating interest in a subject and in keeping the student's interest by allowing them to quickly express the ideas in their head in a fun and captivating manner. This is rarely used in an Asian classroom but very useful to apply - so that students will fall in love with the language and not merely just study it for the sake of results. I really enjoyed this part of the course.
