This unit discussed evaluation and testing, and the particular uses for them. Evaluation is important to students because it can help them develop a greater awareness of what is going on in the classroom and how they are responding to it. This was a particular epiphany for me, in that evaluations by students can give them a moment of self-reflection, which can be used to enhance their learning and motivations. The unit also covered the different types of tests that can be administered throughout the test, ranging from placement tests to achievement tests.This unit focused on the receptive skills of reading and listening. Some of the key points I took from this unit is firstly some TEFL vocabulary, such as authentic and non-authentic texts, and also 'receptive skills' as a type of lesson to be planned. I think it is important for problematic vocabulary to be taught in between the initial reading a text and also before a second reading of the text, because I personally believe there is value in reading a text first for pleasure and secondly as a detailed reading - I often apply this rule to my own reading.
